Settling in at Havelock House
Settling in at your child's own pace
We start gently, with short visits together, and build up the time your child spends with us as their confidence grows. Your child's key person gets to know their routines and favourite things from the very first conversation, and keeps you updated all the way.

Your questions, answered
The things parents most often want to know before their child starts at Havelock House.
“Will my child settle?”
Most children need a little time, and that is completely normal. We start with short visits and build up gradually, with the same familiar faces every day. Ofsted saw children seek out their familiar adult for a cuddle when they arrive, then head off happily to play.
“Will anyone really know my child?”
Every child has a key person and a second key person, so there is always someone who knows them well. Ofsted found our staff know children's home lives, preferences and learning needs in real detail.
“What will they eat?”
Every child gets a freshly cooked, balanced hot lunch at no extra cost. Children eat together, older and younger side by side, and staff talk with them about healthy food choices.
“What if my child needs extra support?”
Ofsted rated our inclusion Strong and found that children with special educational needs progress extremely well. We meet with you regularly to agree targets and work with outside specialists where needed.
“What if English is not their first language?”
Children learning English as an additional language are supported to reach their potential. Songs, stories and everyday conversation help them grow in confidence with new words.
“Will I know how their day went?”
Your child's key person shares how their day went and what they have been learning. You are always welcome to talk to us at drop-off and pick-up.

How we keep children safe
At our November 2025 inspection, Ofsted confirmed our safeguarding standards are met. Here is what that looks like day to day at Havelock House Day Nursery.
A safe, open culture
Everyone on our team knows that keeping children safe is their responsibility. Staff follow clear procedures and act on any concern straight away, and children learn simple rules like kind hands and holding hands when we walk outside.
Healthy bodies, healthy habits
Fresh, balanced hot lunches every day, handwashing built into the routine, and a real focus on brushing teeth and oral health, with staff trained to support families with it.
A team that keeps learning
Leaders support every member of staff through regular supervision and training, and staff are encouraged to develop the areas of practice they care about most.
Funding, explained clearly
We help you understand which funded hours you can claim, from 2 year funding to 15 and 30 hours, and hot lunches are included at no extra cost.
